What’s your deep, dark interviewing sin?
The category for this blog post is called “Fun With a Purpose,” and I have to say, it’s going to be hard to top The Seven Deadly Sins of Interviewing at TheLadders.com.
Since the link to access the Sins is buried in the navigation at the bottom of their home page, I fear that not many people have gotten to enjoy this little feature. If that’s the case, then allow me to assist – the Sins deserve much more attention.
What you’ll find there:
- Two paragraphs on each Sin. Envy, gluttony, greed, lust, pride, sloth, and wrath, all represented here. They define the sins in the context of interviewing and provide quick tips for success (Their spin on “lust” is particularly well-handled.)
- The tales of sin. Anonymous postings (typically from interviewers) detail the most incredible and unusual interview behavior you’ve ever read. These are the sort of tales that wind up being passed around via email for years at a time. You’ll find posts featuring dogs and children, drunken episodes, and even a romantic story or two.
- The chance to one-up everyone. Yes, you can post your own sinful story there, and even though they say your name and company will not be made public, I can’t imagine ever giving out that information along with some of the stories I could tell. People get fired for less these days, right?
And if you haven’t checked out TheLadders.com in general before, please do…their Career Advice section includes articles from none other than Peter Newfield, President of Career-Resumes.com®. But that’s not the only reason.
TheLadders.com is one of the largest $100K+ executive job search sites out there, neatly broken down into subdomains focused on specific job function categories. We wrote a bit more about them in a previous post. Check ‘em out!
