Have you checked out glassdoor.com recently?
Glassdoor is a website/service that allows you to learn about a target company based on supposed input from people “in the know.”
A company search on “microsoft” shows you that employees (and I think ex-employees) give MS a 3.5 to a 4.0 approval rating (highest is 5.0). There are over two thousand comments from the 3.5 group.
How powerful is that, to get an inside look at what’s happening in your target company?
If you are in HR, this would be a powerful tool, if you want to come in with an idea of where the morale is at, what needs to be fixed, propose ideas to fix things, etc.
A search on the company Monster shows a 2.8 approval with 93 reviews, and a search on Google shows a 4.0 approval rating with over 600 reviews. General Electric sits around 3.0 – 3.5 with almost 1,000 reviews.
What does this mean?
It’s a candid look from the inside at what it means to work at your target company. It might have no bearing on how you interview, or the tactics you use to get the job, but it might give you reason to be more excited about, or be concerned with, a company.
I did all of those searches for free, without logging in.
